About this piece: "Silvan Relic" ("Silva" means Forest in Latin)

This handcrafted, one of a kind solid sterling silver bezel set statement ring showcases an exquisite, opalized petrified wood domed cabochon. The ring is well made with a split shank band and a high scalloped bezel and surround by a circular sterling outline. You can see the polished back of the stone on the underside. It will be a stunning ring for a human of any gender =) The colors and pattern of this opalized petrified wood are beautiful. The ring is approximately a size 9.

Opalized Petrified Wood is more than just a beautiful fossil. This stone carries the wisdom of ancient trees, offering grounding and stability to those who seek its guidance. Its calming tones promote a sense of tranquility and peace, making it an excellent aid for meditation and spiritual growth.

Although opal is found all over the globe this particular one is found in only one location in Indonesia. It is at a very high elevation and you have to go through steep inclines and lush jungle terrain to get to it. It is extremely hard to mine and move because the lava flow that created it covered and filled tree trunks. It comes in large and very heavy pieces.

It is a gorgeous stone and very unique in its natural formation. Opal is a feldspar like the moonstone. It is formed from lava and this particular stone gets its coloring from manganese, iron, large copper deposits and the trapped petrified wood. It makes some wonderful landscape-like designs as you can see in the photos above. The green/blue color is from the copper, manganese and water in this opal and the brown/black colors are from the iron and petrified wood trapped inside.

This stone is from Java Island, Indonesia, and was expertly cut and polished by a stonecutter I've known for many years. His work is impeccable, and this stone is no exception. These stones are ethically sourced, hand chosen and crafted one by one by one of the foremost craftsmen in Indonesia.

All of my jewelry is handmade in the form of centuries old tools - torch, hammers, anvils and saws. As such, you may see the rustic marks of forging. This never interferes with the structural integrity of the piece, and is considered to add to the beauty of something labored over - not cast from a machine or mass factory.
